WINSTON JONES & ASSOCIATES ARCHITECTS LTD

After graduating with a diploma in architecture in 1972 from the Robert Gordon Institute of Technology in Aberdeen, Scotland, and with a diploma in Urban Design a year later, Winston Jones continued his studies through the Glasgow School of Art in San Gimignano, Italy.  Upon returning home to The Bahamas in 1973, Mr. Jones was employed by the Department of Physical Planning at the Ministry of Development under the tutelage of Senior Building Inspector Jan Ahacic until 1977 when he sat and passed examinations with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

 

Shortly thereafter, Winston Jones & Associates Architects Ltd. was founded, and to date remains a member of the RIBA in addition to the Professional Architects Board of The Bahamas.  Throughout the years, Mr. Jones has lead the firm’s direction in the path of projects which offered an increasing challenge from the point of design perspective – whether through the application of traditional Bahamian architecture or more contemporary design aspects as evidenced in the U. S. Departure Terminal at the Nassau International Airport and MedDentCo health facilities.  In 1991, Winston Jones & Associates had the privilege of being appointed by the Ministry of Education to develop prototype documents for the construction of primary, secondary and tertiary educational facilities throughout The Bahamas – documents which continue to be used in the development of educational facilities mandated by the Ministry today. 

 

As a result of his firm’s success, Mr. Jones has made it a point to contribute to the local community through the provision of pro bono architectural services for such organizations and/or institutions as the Salvation Army, St. Anne’s School, Christ Church Cathedral, and the Bahamas Swimming Federation.  The practice of architecture remains a passion for Mr. Jones as does his commitment to the development of aesthetically pleasing and sound architectural structures in his island nation.
